Our First Dog-Friendly Kelowna Wine Tour Was a Tail-Wagging Success

Wine country is better when nobody in the family has to stay behind. On our first successful dog-friendly Kelowna wine tour, Katy and her family brought their dogs along for a full day of tastings in Southeast Kelowna, and it worked beautifully.

The family was able to enjoy the wine, the scenery, and time together while their dogs remained part of the experience. Every winery selected for this particular route welcomed dogs on the day of the tour, and the relaxed Southeast Kelowna setting gave us a wonderful first outing for the service.

Katy and her family were wonderfully enthusiastic afterward. A wine tour for the whole family

For many dog owners, leaving a pet behind is the hardest part of planning a day trip. Boarding may not be practical, a visitor may be travelling with a dog, or the dog may simply be part of every family adventure.

Our goal is to make a Kelowna wine tour possible without treating the dog like an afterthought. When guests choose the Dog-Friendly Tour add-on, we plan around wineries with suitable current pet policies and prepare the vehicle with water, a travel bowl, and cleanup supplies.

The dogs still need to be comfortable around people, remain leashed, and follow each winery's rules. Pet access can be limited to a patio or outdoor area, and policies can change. That is why the route is planned for the actual booking date instead of relying on a generic list.

Katy's Southeast Kelowna route

This tour stayed in Southeast Kelowna, part of our East Kelowna wine region. It is a beautiful area for a dog-friendly day because the route can combine country roads, vineyard scenery, relaxed winery settings, and shorter drives between stops.

On Katy's tour, dogs were allowed at every selected stop. The family could enjoy their tastings without repeatedly separating from their pets or worrying about whether the next winery would welcome them.

That does not mean every Southeast Kelowna winery always has the same rule. Indoor access, patio access, seasonal restrictions, special events, and the number or size of dogs can all affect the plan. For each booking, we choose the route around the wineries that work safely and comfortably for that group.

Looking after the dogs while the family tasted

A successful dog-friendly tour is about more than finding wineries that permit pets. The little moments matter too.

During Katy's tour, Keith took the dogs for short walks and kept an eye on them while the family enjoyed their wine and tastings. That gave the dogs a chance to stretch, get comfortable, and have a break while the guests could focus on the winery experience.

When there was a small dog cleanup to handle, the family kindly offered to take care of it. Keith let them know it was already covered: that is part of the dog-friendly tour. Cleanup bags and help with those little whoops are included so the day stays easy, respectful, and pleasant for the guests, the wineries, and everyone else visiting.

It is practical hospitality, and it made a real difference to the family.

What the dog-friendly add-on includes

Our current $60 Dog-Friendly Tour add-on is charged once per tour, not once per guest or per dog. It includes:

• Route planning around wineries with suitable current dog policies
• Fresh water for the dog during the day
• A travel water bowl
• Doggy bags and cleanup supplies
• Practical help with short comfort walks and keeping the tour organized when conditions allow
• Extra planning so the dog, guests, driver, and wineries are all considered

Guests remain responsible for their dog's behaviour, leash, comfort, and safety. Our role is to make the day easier and build a route where bringing the dog is realistic rather than stressful.

There are more dog-friendly Okanagan wineries than many people expect

One of the best discoveries from this first tour was how well a dog-friendly winery day can come together. The Okanagan has many wineries that welcome dogs in some form, especially on patios and in outdoor areas.

The important phrase is in some form. One winery may allow a leashed dog inside the tasting room. Another may welcome dogs only on the patio. A third may change its policy during busy weekends, food service, private events, extreme heat, or harvest.

What made this first tour a success

Katy and her family came to enjoy wine country together, and that is exactly what they were able to do. The wineries welcomed the dogs, the route stayed comfortable, the family enjoyed their tastings, and the dogs received walks, water, attention, and care along the way.
